FAQ
Q1 Is there a DIY (Do-It-Yourself) Kit available? A1 The Dr X Kit for the 2001/2002 R6 is only available as a PNP (Plug 'N Play). The surgery required is quite detailed and involves many steps for replacing the OEM electronics and modifying the OEM harness.
Q2 If i remove the rear turn signals, will i encounter FAST FLASH? A2 The Dr X Kit 2001/2002 R6 has load equalization resistors built into the kit to compensate for the removal of the REAR turn signals. If you have removed/replaced the OEM front turn signals, you may encounter FAST FLASH. To resolve the issue you may purchase the Flash Equalizer PRO
Q3 How is the lens cut and then reattached? A3 VFX designers and technicians have developed specialized equipment and jigs to cut open each taillight. This method ensures a professional cut with little or no damage to the lens or taillight body. Once the electronics have been replaced, the lens is reattached using a specialized plastic adhesive specifically developed for the Dr X Kit series. The plastic adhesive (VPAD-010) is durable and impermeable to elements such as water, gasoline, oil, road grime and temperature fluctuations. VFX does not recommend the use of silicone to reattach the lens. Silicone does not adhere to plastic well and will eventually compromise the integrity of the seal - leaving the electronics susceptible to the elements.
Q4 Does your kit replace the OEM LEDs? A4 No. The Dr X Kit for the 2001/2002 R6 maintains the OEM LEDs and replaces only the electronics behind the LEDs. Your taillight will be exactly the same in appearance as an OEM taillight, but with L/R signal capability.
Q5 Why not use YELLOW LEDs for L/R Signals? A5 The Dr X Kit 2001/2002 R6 has been designed to work with the OEM LEDs for manipulation of L/R signals. There are no requirements by law that signals must be YELLOW in North America. In fact most domestic vehicles use red for rear signals. From a safety perspective, LED intensity and ON/OFF contrast is the predominant factor for signal visibility and intention (not color). The red LEDs used by Yamaha in the 2001/2002 R6 taillight are among the brightest on the market. Each red LED has the equivalent light power of 10 or more typical yellow LEDs. |
