DIY vs. PNP
Customers have a choice of purchasing the Dr X Kit 2004/05 1000RR X-treme as a DIY (Do-It-Yourself) or PNP (Plug 'N Play). Both versions offer the same performance, animations and components; the only difference is in the installation of the product. DIY The DIY kit requires the installer to perform the plastic surgery on the OEM taillight. The operation involves cutting open the OEM taillight (Dremel tool recommended), replacing the internal board with the Dr X Kit 2004/05 1000RR X-treme board and resealing the taillight. The Dr X Kit 2004/05 1000RR X-treme DIY comes complete with industry leading step-by-step installation instructions (see manual), Dremel cutting blades, custom VFX Plastic Adhesive (VPAD-010) for resealing the taillight and miscellaneous hardware (various tie-wraps, rubber bands, heatshrink, etc). The only thing we haven't included in the kit is the little robot to do the surgery for you! The Dr X Kit 2004/05 1000RR X-treme DIY offers a cost effective solution and insight into the electronics of the kit - very rewarding when completed. PNP For the PNP, VFX technicians perform the plastic surgery for you on an OEM taillight. The PNP option drastically reduces installation time (less than 30 - 40 minutes) and complexity. There are 3 ways to purchase the PNP: Send in your taillight for surgery (see details) >> requires downtime Participate in the HOTSWAP PROGRAM >> ZERO downtime Purchase the Dr X Kit with a NEW OEM taillight >> ZERO downtime
The Hotswap Program is an industry first and is the most popular option when purchasing the Dr X Kit PNP (available only to destinations in the US and Canada). Each taillight entering the Hotswap Program is thoroughly inspected for flaws. Click on image for more details about Hotswap Program... For international customers (outside US and Canada) who wish to purchase the Dr X Kit 2004/05 1000RR X-treme PNP, the best option is to purchase the kit with a NEW OEM taillight. When considering the extensive downtime (longer transit times) and the shipping cost (both ways), this option proves the most effective. |
