Q1 Which model does the PIVOT KIT R1 work on?
A1 There are 2 models of the Pivot Kit R1.  The Pivot Kit R1 2002/03 and the Pivot Kit R1 2004/05.  You are currently in the FAQ section for the Pivot Kit R1 2004/05.  These kits are specifically designed for bolt-on installation onto the R1 for their respective years.  Installation on other models may be possible with customization.  

Q2 Will the PIVOT KIT R1 cover up all the undertail holes on the 2004/2005 R1 models?
A2 YES.  The Pivot Kit R1 2004/05 has been specifically designed to cover up all the holes including the large hole where the wires pass through

Q3 Will my plate work with the kit?
A3 See product specifications to verify hole spacing for plate compatibility. The Pivot Kits are designed to fit both WIDE and NARROW format plates. The PIVOT KIT series has been sold worldwide and to date all plates have been compatible (i.e. all US & Canada States/provinces, Europe, Australia, Japan, South Africa, etc..)

Q4 Why are lights sold separately?
A4 For the Pivot Kit R1 2004/05 our designers created a modular design where the mechanical brackets and the lighting have been separated.  In addition, the LED HOLDER which is available with 3 LED color combinations has also been made modular for easy replacement.

This approach is in response to customer feedback.  Many users do not require the illumination while many others wish to have the illumination and still be able to try different LED color combinations without purchasing an entire kit.  See specifications for more details. 

Q5 How do I program the LED animations?
A5 The Pivot Kit R1 LED Animator incorporates trick inline electronics which allows users to program from 9 different LED animations through our ground breaking RIP technology. Included in these animations is an OFF state, which allows the user to turn off the LEDs while the bike remains on without undoing any of the wiring. Q6 Is it legal?
A6 With a wide range of regulations, this is left up to the customer to determine with your local authorities. In essence, this kit has been designed for maximum mounting flexibility with illumination and a professional look >> should not pose a problem.

Q7 How is the preload adjusted for On-THE-FLY control?
A7 Users may adjust the preload on the PIVOT BOLTS using the hex key provided.

Q8 Is a motorized version available?
A8 Due to liability issues, the PIVOT KIT R1 is not available with a motor/servo. However, our designers have included mounting points to enable customers to fit their own cable/servo kits.

Q9 How bright are the LEDs? Is the kit available in other LED colors?
A9 The Pivot Kit R1 LED HOLDER uses a total of 3 ultra bright BLUE and/or WHITE LEDs. These specific LEDs have been chosen for unbeatable intensity over a wide viewing angle for greater dispersion of light for:

• Illumination of the License Plate (LED2 and LED 3)

• Illumination of the R1 Emblem (LED1)

• Undertail & Ground effects illumination (all LEDs)

• Available LED combinations are >> all LEDS WHITE, >> all LEDs BLUE or >> LED1 in BLUE with LED2 + LED3 in WHITE (see specifications for more info)

Q10 Do I need the original bolts that held the stock fender?
A10 No.  The Pivot Kit R1 2004/05 is equipped with all the hardware needed for installation.

Q11 What are the orange wires for on the Inline Electronics for the Animator?
A11 These wires enable a RIP ENTRY OVERRIDE feature.  In some cases, other aftermarket components on your bike may also use the ignition ON-OFF-ON sequence for programming.  In order to avoid conflict engage the override feature.  See RIP Card for more details.

Q12 Why do I need this kit?
A12 Most enthusiasts place great emphasis on cleaning up the rear tail with trick LED taillight Kits (check out our trick DR X Kit R1 2004/2005 X-treme). But when it comes to mounting the plate they simply screw on using a cheap ‘home-made’ bracket where all the undertail holes may not be covered. The pivot kit provides a professional appearance with just the right aftermarket flare…the ultimate fender eliminator kit.
