FAQ

Q1 The Dr X Kit replaces the electronics within the OEM Taillight?

A1 YES, the Dr X Kit circuit board directly replaces the board within the OEM taillight using same mounting holes and screws.

Q2 Are the Highlight LEDs legal?

A2 The Highlight LEDs (BLUE or GREEN) are provided for trick highlights.  Users can toggle them ON/OFF on-the-fly (while riding) to avoid issues with local authorities.  There is also a Highlight LED override feature which will disable the highlight LEDs even when powering your bike OFF/ON.

Q3 Is the Dr X Kit DOT approved?

A3 The Dr X Kits are designed to MEET DOT specifications but are not approved or qualified for DOT use.  This is achieved by maintaining and exceeding manufacturer LED specifications for intensity, wavelength (color) and placement of LEDs.

Q4 Is the Dr X Kit 2004/05 ZX-10R X-treme brighter than OEM?

A4 YES, the Dr X Kit 2004/05 ZX-10R X-treme maintains the same running light intensity as OEM, but provides a much brighter taillight when braking than OEM.  The increased intensity improves animation contrast while increasing rearward visibility and signaling intention.

Q5 How is the lens cut and then reattached?

A5 VFX designers and technicians have developed specialized equipment and jigs to cut open each taillight.  This method ensures a professional cut with little or no damage to the lens or taillight body.  Once the electronics have been replaced, the lens is reattached using a specialized plastic adhesive specifically developed for the Dr X Kit series.  The plastic adhesive (VPAD-010) is durable and impermeable to elements such as water, gasoline, oil, road grime and temperature fluctuations.

VFX does not recommend the use of silicone to reattach the lens.  Silicone does not adhere to plastic well and will eventually compromise the integrity of the seal - leaving the electronics susceptible to the elements.

Q6 Will the Dr X Kit 2004/05 ZX-10R X-treme work with my existing rear turn signals?

A6 YES. The Dr X Kit will work with aftermarket or OEM rear signals.

Q7 If i remove the rear turn signals, will i encounter FAST FLASH?

A7 Removing/replacing/integrating your OEM turn signals may cause the flash relay to go into fast/quick flash mode.  This is easily resolved with the VFX Universal Flasher Relay which is supplied with each Dr X Kit 2004/05 ZX-10R X-treme.

The VFX Universal Flasher Relay replaces the stock flasher relay restoring the DOT flash rate even if the stock signals are removed or replaced (front or rear).  Installation is simple PLUG 'n PLAY for the 2004/05 ZX-10R.  Click here for more info and pictures of the VFX Universal Flasher Relay.
