FAQ
Q1 The Dr X Kit replaces the electronics within the OEM Taillight? A1 YES, the Dr X Kit circuit board directly replaces the board assembly within the OEM taillight using same mounting holes and screws. Q2 Are the Highlight LEDs legal? Can i choose which ones i want to activate? A2 The Highlight LEDs are provided for trick effect. Users can toggle them ON/OFF on-the-fly (while riding) to avoid issues with local authorities. There is also a Highlight LED override feature which will completely disable the Highlight LEDs. The Highlights are currently offered in Blue or White. Users can select from BLUE1 (top center led), BLUE2 (all center leds) or BLUE3 (top center and side leds; default) >> see RIP Manual for programming info and features. Q3 Is the Dr X Kit DOT approved? A3 The Dr X Kits are designed to MEET DOT specifications but are not approved or qualified for DOT use. This is achieved by maintaining and exceeding manufacturer LED specifications for intensity, wavelength (color) and placement of LEDs. Q4 How bright is the kit? A4 The Dr X Kit 2006/07 Yamaha R6 X-treme contains the highest number of RED and/or YELLOW LEDs on the market. Our unique board/bracket design maintains the original RED LED positions for an OEM look while adding 60 Yellow LEDs and 6 Highlight LEDs for spectacular signal/brake/FX animations! Q5 How is the lens cut and then reattached? A5 VFX designers and technicians have developed specialized equipment and jigs to cut open each taillight. This method ensures a professional cut with little or no damage to the lens or taillight body. Once the electronics have been replaced, the lens is reattached using a specialized plastic adhesive specifically developed for the Dr X Kit series. The plastic adhesive (VPAD-010) is durable and impermeable to elements such as water, gasoline, oil, road grime and temperature fluctuations. VFX does not recommend the use of silicone to reattach the lens. Silicone does not adhere to plastic well and will eventually compromise the integrity of the seal - leaving the electronics susceptible to the elements. Q6 How do i hook up the alarm trigger wire? A6 Locate a +12V constant output wire on your alarm system. Most alarms dedicate an output wire for hook up to turn signals or a taillight. Ensure that the output wire is capable of handling a 2.5 Amp load. If current exceeds output rating use an external relay. Q7 Will the Dr X Kit 2006/07 Yamaha R6 X-treme work with my existing rear turn signals? A7 YES. The Dr X Kit will work with aftermarket or OEM rear signals. In fact the signal animations on the Dr X Kit can be synchronized to the same flash rate on the aftermarket signals - both the Dr X Kit and alternate signals with blink in tandem. Q8 Do i need to install the FX Switch up at the front? A8 VFX recommends mounting up at the front for ON-THE-FLY operation of the Special effects. For greater discretion the FX switch can be kept in the cargo area. Q9 Do i need the FX Switch to activate the Special FX Animations? A9 No. The Dr X Kit 2006/07 R6 X-treme incorporates our latest ON-THE-FLY innovation where 2 Special FX animations (FX1, FX2) can be activated the standard Left and Right Switches. Toggling LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT within 2 seconds will activate FX1. Toggling RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT within 2 seconds will activate FX2. FX1 and FX2 can also be latched so that L/R switches can remain off while Special FX animation is active (see RIP manual for full details). Users will require the FX Switch to be able to re-program the FX1 and FX2 defaults. Q10 If i remove the rear turn signals, will i encounter FAST FLASH? A10 NO. Each Dr X Kit 2006/07 R6 X-treme is supplied with the VFX Universal Flasher Relay!! The relay simply replaces the OEM relay (PLUG 'n PLAY) and provides the DOT flash rate regardless of signal modifications. The best part is that the relay will restore the DOT flash rate if the front signals are modified also. Q11 What are the RPM Animations? A11 Unlike any other Dr X Kit, the Dr X Kit 2006/07 R6 X-treme is equipped with Signal, Brake and Special FX RPM animations. These animations vary with engine RPM to add a new dimension to the taillight and your riding >> the rpm animations provide a visual of your riding dynamics!! And if you're anything like us, you're also rev happy with the engine. With the RPM animations, you can add mind-blowing taillight effects to your revs! |
