FAQ
Q1 Once installed, will I get a faster blink rate (or no blink rate)? A1 If the stock flasher relay is not replaced with a low load relay OR if a load equalizer is not added, then you will encounter the faster blink rate or on some models no blink rate. The reason for the quick blink rate is simple. For DOT regulation manufacturers must equip cars/bikes with a 2 speed signal relay. The stock DOT rate is pulsed if you your blinkers are pulling a minimum of approx 36-40 Watts. The stock signal bulbs pull over 40 Watts (front + rear; front and rear are wired in parallel) which satisfies the threshold. When installing aftermarket LED signals (front or rear) the load is below the threshold and the blink rate increases approx by factor 3. The stock relay is manufactured this way to warn riders when a signal bulb is burned out. SOLUTION1 >> replace the stock relay with the VFX UNIVERSAL FLASHER RELAY. This relay is non-load dependant and will output the DOT flash rate regardless of signal load. The VFX Universal Flasher Relay is PLUG 'n PLAY for most models (see link for details). SOLUTION2 >> add the VFX FLASH EQUALIZER PRO. The Flash Equalizer PRO is one of the most advanced load equalizers available on the market for curing FAST FLASH, HYPER-FLASH, SOLID FLASH when the stock signals have been altered. The clever electronics and packaging safely couples the load to a heat sink while thermal runaway protection prevents the module from reaching temperatures that may melt surrounding plastics/fairings. A single module will correct the blink rate for front, rear, left & right signal modifications (see link for details). The Flash Equalizer PRO is far superior to resistors as it will not burn out like resistors (solid state electronics), much simpler to install (single module vs multiple resistors) and is ultimately cheaper than multiple resistors. VFX recommends the the UNIVERSAL FLASHER RELAY for models where the stock relay is easily replaceable otherwise the FLASH EQUALIZER PRO is recommended. Q2 Are the VFX flushmounts 2-wire or 3-wire? A2 As with most of the flushmounts on the market, the flushmounts are 2-wire (no running light wire). To add ADJUSTABLE running light intensity as well as SIGNAL ANIMATIONS, check out the VFX RUNNING LIGHT FX KIT. Q3 Are they connectorized? A3 In order to keep costs low, the flushmounts are not equipped with connectors. However, users may simply cut-off the connector from the stock signals and splice onto the flushmounts for easy connectorization. Q4 Which wires do I splice into?
